  • Storage or workshop space
  • Hot tub or Jacuzzi enclosure
  • Bunkhouse or kids' camp
  • State park and campground rentals

Heating and Year-Round Use

At 200 square feet, the Chocorua is the easiest of our yurts to heat. A small wood stove or a compact direct-vent propane heater is usually plenty once the yurt is insulated, and the short wall-to-wall distance means heat from the stove reaches every corner. Our guide to living in a yurt in winter covers insulation, stove sizing and snow load in more detail.

Layout Ideas

Most owners keep the floor open: a bed or futon on one side, a desk or worktable under a window and a small stove set away from the door. If you want storage, a freestanding loft over part of the floor adds space without touching the lattice wall. For more ideas, read yurt interior design ideas.

Planning Your Chocorua

Every White Mountain Yurt is set on a wooden platform that you supply. Download the free platform plans for the 16' model, check your town's rules with our permit and zoning guide, and price your yurt with options in the Chocorua price calculator.

Still deciding? Compare The Whiteface (20'), The Liberty (24'), The Washington (30'), or see all models side by side on the yurts page.

What is a yurt?

A yurt is a round, tension-built shelter with a lattice wall, roof rafters and a central ring, adapted from the traditional dwellings of Central Asia. Folks use our yurts for a variety of reasons including year-round living, artist lofts, hunting camps, vacation suites, ski area shelters and much more. The best way to understand a White Mountain Yurt is to see one in person – and choose to live outside the box!

Testimonials

I can't say enough good things about my experience with WMY's. The yurt itself is strong, beautiful, light and airy. The people at WMY's are professional, enthusiastic, responsive and just plain fun. I've been wanting a yurt for the last 16 years, and the reality has been even better than the dream!
